Red Hook Criterium 5K 2015 A race impression

The Red Hook Criterium started out as an unsanctioned cycling race series consisting of world class road racers, track specialists, bike messengers, and urban athletes competing over multiple laps around a short, technical circuit. The event has expanded to include a 5km running race on the same date, on the same circuit, and in the same spirit as the cycling criterium.

The game was on last April 25th on an USATF certified course at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in New York City. Not only victory was to be won, but also cash prizes for top men and women. The first place would be going home with 1000 dollars in cash but there was also change to win 300 dollars for beating competition in the first lap.
Last year’s event was held in pouring rain but the 2015 edition (No. 8) was filled with sun and wind. A good setting for some speedy running.

In partnership with the events presenting sponsor, Rockstar Games, NYC based reflective performance sportsbrand ICNY was able to accomplish creating exclusive apparel for the race officials and volunteers with the ICNY ethos in mind – to be seen, in style.
Aside from the hundreds of race volunteers and officials, ICNY also provided reflective-wear for athletes competing in the race including cycling teams the Fifth Floor NYC/LDN and Mars Cycles as well as running crew Black Roses NYC.
